My Tasks

Sunken Search was my first VR project I worked on. My tasks included the creation of C# code for gameplay purposes and the overall system regarding interactions of different game features; building and maintaining the game within the Unity Engine Editor by creating a folder structure, importing assets, creating prefabs, placing game objects, and keeping up order and naming conventions; supporting artists and designers; maintaining source control with GitHub; Creating and testing builds on the Pico headset; Optimizing lighting and performance

For this project it was especially difficult to create the intended game feel. Finetuning the submarines movement in connection with the relative size of the player, submarine, and environment was a time-consuming task. In contrast to our early tests, during which players reported nausea, the final movement felt did not have such effects and felt "smooth".

The Game

Sunken Search is a Horror VR experience, during which players travel the deep underwater trenches in search for a lost expedition, which supposedly found Atlantis. While navigating the maze of rocks and sand, a mysterious mutated monster hunts them down to protect the secrets of the deep sea. Initial inspiration came from the game Iron Lung and its unique atmosphere, which we wanted to enhance via a VR experience.
